An APK is a ZIP archive containing a compiled manifest, DEX bytecode and resources, plus a signature block that Android verifies before installing. Because installation validates both the archive structure and the signature, a corrupted APK fails at a very early and very visible stage.

- The ZIP container. Local file headers, the central directory and the EOCD record are all destroyed.
- AndroidManifest.xml. The compiled binary manifest declaring the package name, permissions and entry activity becomes unreachable.
- classes.dex. The DEX bytecode entries lose their headers, so nothing can be verified or loaded.
- The signing block. The APK Signature Scheme block sitting before the central directory is destroyed, so verification fails outright.

Why does Android say "parsing the package"?
Because the installer reads the ZIP structure and the compiled manifest before anything else. Both are destroyed, so it fails at the parse stage rather than at install.
Does it break the signature?
Yes. The signing block sits inside the archive and is destroyed with it, so signature verification fails even if a parser somehow got that far.
Does it work on AAB bundles?
Yes. Android App Bundles are also ZIP containers and use the same profile.
Can I still inspect it with apktool?
No. Without a readable archive index there is nothing for apktool or jadx to decode.
