Pourquoi les fichiers Word sont difficiles à corrompre correctement
Since Office 2007 a .docx has been a ZIP archive full of XML. Random byte flips usually land inside a compressed stream, and Word's recovery reads the rest of the archive and opens the document anyway. Breaking a Word file properly means breaking the container, not the contents.

- Local file headers. Every
PK\x03\x04record that marks the start of an entry inside the package is destroyed. - The central directory. The index mapping entry names to offsets is overwritten, so no unzip implementation can enumerate the archive.
- End of central directory. The EOCD record in the final 64 KB is destroyed. Without it the file stops being a valid ZIP entirely.
- Legacy .doc files. For pre-2007 documents the OLE compound-document header and its FAT sector map are targeted instead.

Questions fréquentes sur Word
Will Word's "Open and Repair" recover the document?
No. Open and Repair salvages readable parts of the archive. Standard level destroys the local file headers and the central directory, so there is nothing left to salvage from.
Does this work for .doc as well as .docx?
Yes. The engine detects legacy OLE compound documents and targets their header and sector allocation table, which is the equivalent structural landmark for that format.
Will the file keep its original name?
By default yes, the download uses the exact original filename. You can switch on the corrupted_ prefix in the options if you would rather label it clearly.
Can the original be recovered afterwards?
Not from the corrupted copy. The corruption is applied to a copy held in memory and the file on your device is never modified, but the output itself is permanently damaged.
