Почему файлы Markdown трудно испортить как следует
Markdown has no invalid state: every byte sequence is technically renderable, which is why it needs a different approach from formats with a grammar. What breaks a Markdown file is the encoding, not the syntax: once it is not decodable text, no renderer can process it.

- Character encoding. Invalid UTF-8 sequences are injected throughout, so the file fails to decode as text.
- Front matter. The opening bytes containing YAML front matter are destroyed, which breaks static site generators immediately.
- Syntax markers. Heading hashes, list markers, code fences and link brackets are overwritten.
- Code blocks. Fenced block delimiters are broken up, so the remainder of the document is swallowed into a code block.

Can Markdown even be "invalid"?
Not syntactically: any text is valid Markdown. What this breaks is the encoding, so the file stops being readable text at all, which is what real corruption does.

Yes. Front matter sits at the very start of the file, inside the header region that gets overwritten. That is usually what breaks a static site build first.
Does it work on MDX?
Yes, and MDX fails harder because it is compiled rather than merely rendered.
